WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
How about a world/international twinshock championship at say already running events,Kleinau,Langrish, france, holland, belguim could be at sidecar gps.
Would need some rules as in legitimate bikes.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
What hope have we got in organising something.
We can`t even get 5 outfits on the line at a sidecar friendly club and track in the UK.
But yes . it sounds good .
Are you putting your name forward to organise it Paul ?????
You have my support.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Ok i will try!
First then Rules.
Twins/multies in twinshock/monoshock old school frames ie wasp no modern single shock bikes twinshocked.Any shocks/brakes,aircooled engines.
Now the problem
Singles aircooled[yam xt/honda xl,xr/suzuki sp,dr/Husky in twinshock period frames.OK.
Rotax is the problem it may have been around in the early 80s as a kick 500cc but that isnt what is used now.
Start arguing now.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Great idea Paul but, as you know better than most, organising and policing such a thing is a huge, and largely thankless, task. It does however have the potential to be a glorious series.
As for the machinery, why not simplify your proposal even further to (A) Twins and Multi's and (B) Singles with A's on yellow background even no.plates and the B's on odd number green backgrounds . All aircooled fourstroke. This could be extended to ACU and AMCA events. No other rules -it simply isn't workable. Each race would have an A and B winners result.
Debate the detail all you like but it's brilliant 'cos I said so

How about 2 classes.
Pre 84/ Period/single/twin/multi/air cooled/twin shock/mono wasp allowed but not the 2 stroke wasp chassis.Any
brakes/any shocks/any wheels. As most of the twinshocks have something modern on them including doogle
Twinshock built frame no modern single shock sidecar modified/85 onward built/aircooled/fourstroke

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
been wondering when this subject might come up, lots of work and issues but sidecars should have a world championship like the solo bikes.
No later chassis than 84 and no mod'd modern frames, use of modern front ends might have to be allowed just for safety reasons in some cases, like my 84, the front end has been welded 2 times, not sure that is good.
Maybe a dividing line for older bikes, say 70 and down and 71 and up to 84 ???
To me if a motor is from the era, then it should be allowed, like my 84 EML with a 72 ? H2 triple, yes, I know that is mixing era's but I would have to be scored in the 84 class. Chassis year would have to be the bottom line to that. Suspension is another matter, multi ajustable shocks for the upper class and basic ajustability for the older class, trying to keep with in the era as much as possible, just a thought from the other side of the pond.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Sidecargeezer where would a post 84 twinshock wasp fit in like a new wasp,or over here we have several really nice homebuild twinshocks or even now there is a modern twinshock chassis been built.?

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
If this is to go Euro. we need to concider other countries rules.
The French are very strict. No mono. no Rotax. pre 84.
Also the dutch. No modern chassis, no Rotax, pre 84.
Not sure about the Germans. they seem quite relaxed. twinshock, fourstroke.
Belguims are also twinshock, fourstroke.
So how would we get on in france and holland with these proposals regarding the Rotax engine.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
I would like to say no Rotax but arguements are around that they were around in 84 ,in solos they were.
The wheels are in motion now and speed is gathering quickly

complicated, maybe it should be divided in terms of travel ? Most homebuilts (from the past here) at best would have 4" of travel and an 84 ??/ might have 6" or 7 ? Say you built a chassis with 6" then you would have to race in the above the line class, no matter what year the chassis is? The whole Rotax issue, I'm not sure about, this is more of an issue over there than here and I don't know much about them, we only had maybe 1 or 2 back in the day and they did not seem to be any better than a twin ridden by equal teams.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Bless anyone willing to take on the organizing, rules and all the BS that goes along with trying to put something like this together. Maybe joining up with the EMCO might make it easier ? It is a great idea and I would put a great deal of effort into trying to get myself or another team over there from the USA. I did the organizing for the one and only time we sent 3 teams to the sidecar des nations in 96 with the help of Roy and Pam Humprey, and it was a pain in the arse, Wasp and EML helped out also but what a great thing this would be.......

just another random thought, how many events? maybe 4 at the most 3 might be more realalistic because of cost's for everyone.

I just re-read that, if you mean a new/old Wasp built to the standards of the time, why not ? like buying a new/old Rickman or Chaney for solo racing. Thankfully WASP will do this, it can only be good in my view, gets more rigs out there for those who can afford it, not a lot of good old ones around anymore.
Where I might draw the line is taking a current bike and moding to a twin shock, maybe I'm wrong about that, but it just seems wrong to me.

very cool, I talk with them every once in a while, Brady has moved to Arz and Ed still live on Catalina, they don't race sidecars anymore and in fact, there is very little sidecar racing going on here. They were a fast team, as I recall they did well in a local meet there in the UK, to bad Bradys shoulder gave out in Swiss, we thank all of you in the UK that helped us, we could not have done it with out you.

see that is where I might draw the line, I would think we would want to stay as close to what they were as possible.papsck wrote:What about a frame built with modern dimensions but twinshock?

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Some thought also needs to go into grading the driver/passenger also.
Otherwise you will not encourage any new blood into the sport. the old retired/ young new to sport. Etc.
Remember the old Talking point Championship. Expert and junior.
I think if you just have one class on personal ability you will loose over half the entry`s. and just create a class for ex modern crews to win.
If this world series is created (hope so) will you have to qualify to ride or would it be open to every tom dick and adam. I don`t think it would be any good to turn people away because of there ability. This would then fall back on club meeting with the slower ones just saying sod you. And as we all know. you can not have a meeting with the 6 fastest crews in the UK.

Re: WORLD TWINSHOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
Just to say what a great idea I think this is Paul, and I wish you good luck with it. I think the biggest hurdle will be bike elligibility, but if everyone wants it to happen I'm sure a solution could be found.
