Post  papsck Wed Sep 23, 2009 9:02 pm

Are there any twinshock meetings that wont allow a pre 84 two stroke aircooled sidecar to race?

Only way is a lightweight fourstroke, but then it has to of been built before 84, hence no rotax`s at pre 65. and if you start winning on it, more clubs will ban you. that seems to be the norm i`m afraid.
lol!
Then you look at some of the clubs this year. its a JOKE. the bonanza. putting english and europeian engines together. who will bother taking there norton there, no chance against a rotax.
The ken Hall, allowing a Single shock lightweight Twostroke to ride on the sunday. when regs clearly state Twinshock.
Will be intresting to see whats at The bill Turner. thats another Twinshock meeting.

Hi all
Im well out of touch so please put me right here, are you saying there is no place for 2 stroke motors even if it was racing before 85, the strokers started to piss me off in about 82 and by 85 I was one of only a few with 4 stroke in our centre

What about the Jumbo, can it race anywhere?

i know that a bike out on the track makes up the numbers but i dont really agree with the use of rotax motors,(or any single 4 stroke) i raced a.m.c.a and a.c.u in the early 80s and i dont recall anyone using them, you had your big four strokes, then came the 1000 jumbo(which i think is a period bike).then came the smaller two strokes,450/480 honda,465/490 yam,495 ktm,rm465/500,kx420/500.all these were aircooled motors and allot of them were fitted into the big fourstroke chassis untill the lightweight chassis appered.i just dont want to see the big bikes killed off again. who of you remember going to frome many years ago and finding it hard to get a good view when the big bikes were out there?,i can remember going to watch after the lightweights had killed of the fourstrokes and finding it quite boring and also alot less spectators,i didnt bother after that, alot of others also gave up.the atmosphere you got from the roar of the big bikes had gone, well now its back lets not kill it off all over agian.

I totally agree with you, but what i am trying to determin is the Criteria for twinshock racing, is it twinshocks, twin cylinder 4 stroke motor, pre 85 or something else.
I agree that i cannot recall anyone racing Rotax pre 85, there were plenty of 2 strokes around that time but they were the forrunners of the modern lightweights and we raced against them on "IMO" equal terms.
I would have no objection to racing against a period 2 stroke on my period 4 stroke twin (twinshocks, pre 85)

I would have thought that it's easy-the only bike to have is a British 4 stroke,eg;BSA!x

i can recall afew 4 cylinder 4 strokes but they never seemed to be that good(to much wheel spin). i have seen afew 1 offs that never made it, john elliot and his rg500 suzuki powered wasp,rd350lc in an eml chassis. i think more twinshock clubs need to follow the pre 65 club rules

For most people that is true, not tractable like a twin, however the HALLER brothers LORENZ & SAMUEL took the World title in 1973 on a 750 HondaWASP

P.S. there are quite a few 4 cylinder sidecars racing down here in France

Just had a look at pre 65 club site and you could do a lot worse. although i see they let the Rotax engine in.
When I went classic racing with my yamaha xs engines they would not accept that they ever raced before the 1972 cutoff even though they were made from 1969.
Im sure i remmember John Elliot trying a KTM or Husquvarna or similar back in the seventies.

the tracks back then were alot bigger and a 4 cylinder 4 was fast in a straight line. i think at the end of the day you should use the motor that the chassis was made for, prehaps there needs to be another class for 84 on bikes that the early lightweight chassis was made for. i think the 1000 jumbo is o.k to use,i had one and they deffinatly aint light!!, its a bit awkward with the monoshock twin chassis as both wasp and eml made em but there are clubs that wont allow them,iv had a few mono wasp chassis including a wasp wasp but i converted them to twin shock cos clubs like the pre65 and mortimer wouldnt let me ride,if you put paul morris in a three wheel reliant he will still win but by using a rotax he has an advantage cos they are less work than a big bike, like i said earlier i dont want to see the bike motors killed off again,at the end of the day wasnt the twinshock class brought out to get the big bikes back out on the track???

Again I agree, I’m a big twin fan, started out with BSA then Triumph, Norton then Yamaha in 1976 and I’m still with them, I feel sidecar motocross needs as much help as possible both classic and modern so if a Jumbo is acceptable why not another 2 stroke that actually raced in that period.

cos the early ones were home built jobs, wasp twishock lightweight chassis like battys etc were built to take 490 yams etc but have you seen any of these chassis with a stroker in it?, if these bikes race along side the big 4s then they should be in there own race a scored seperatly, im a massive fan of the big bikes a havnt forgotten that it was the little strokers that killed of the big ens.

A jumbo is NOT acceptable according to the AMCA rule book.
The Ken Hall meeting.
Prime example. A watercooled jumbo, mini jumbo frame, single shock, two young lads that regualy ride in the modern british championship. What chance has anyone got.??????????????????????????????????????????? TWINSHOCK TWOSTROKE? 503768

yep i totaly agree with you on the use off the monoshock watercooled jumbo, iv riden one and compeared to my air cooled 1000 twinshock it was so much easier to ride, but the 1000 is just as hard a ride as a big 4,the pre 74 rule on the two strokes is a bit daft, what was around then that had any go in it? 350 jawa??

i stoped racing in 86 and by then the lightweight was well in, at first (83 ish) the motors were being put in to the heavy weight chassis e.g pete glazier and his 495 ktm in a modified rt2 chassis, 490 yams and maicos in wasp and eml frames, in late 84 my cousin, gary burt, bought a hooker outfit that used all the 490 yam bits in a very well made chassis built i think by grayham jones, maico brought out a sidecar kit that you bolted staight to your 490 maico, i remember john elliot usuing one.all the early ones were o.k but once the monoshock came around the big ens were finished, the handelling was far better, i can remember getting on the side of my cousin on his 490 and him doing a practice start, my thoughts at the time were sh....t this is fast!!

Rules need sorting.
pre 84 twin-shock , twin-cylinder, 750cc min engine capacity, two or four stroke.
that should cover most problems that i can see. but bottom line is. rotaxs/singles puts bums on seats and make entrys good.
any ideas.??????????????
